Dental Splints
A splint is a mouth guard device designed for people who grind their teeth or have a temporomandibular joint or TMJ. It is custom-made for a person having a specific dental problem.
The splint is usually made of processed acrylic resin or plastic. It guides the jaw when it moves sideways or m front-to-back. It aims to protect the teeth from harmful habits and supports the TMJ and associated muscles while eating. The splints are used for a short time. It does not lead to a permanent change in the teeth or jaw. Also called occlusal splints, dental splints are made to fit between and over your upper and lower teeth. A dental splint relaxes the muscle, lowers the toothache and pain, and stabilizes the jaw by preventing teeth clenching or bruxism. Splints can be worn at night.
The splint is also used largely for repositioning the lower jaw. It creates an improved airflow when the sleep apnea patient is sleeping. Since each patient has a different problem, you need to check with Franklin Bright Smiles to get a custom dental splint to match your needs.
